TIPS

New Glarus is known for its great food, Swiss cuisine, vibrant tavern atmosphere, and of course the most popular beer in Wisconsin. When in New Glarus be sure to also try one of our locally made landjägers from Hoesly’s Meats, nut horns or other fine pastries from the New Glarus Bakery, Swiss cuisine from a local restaurant, or wine from our local winery.

Want to eat Swiss? Then the Chalet Landhaus Restaurant is your place! Some delicious Swiss delicacies include kalberwurst, wienerschnitzel, and don’t forget the rösti potatoes!

For breakfast, there are four solid options: on Saturday morning the American Legion is hosting a pancake breakfast at 1121 2nd Street. Also, Fat Cat Coffee Works is another great place for breakfast any day. On Sunday, the Chalet Landhaus Restaurant has a wonderful Swiss breakfast buffet and Toffler's Pub & Grill has an exciting breakfast menu.

If you want a burger, be sure to try the Ott Haus award winning (literally) burger at Ott Haus Pub & Grill. If you want pizza, Sugar River Pizza is amazing. You’d be hard pressed to find a better pizza place anywhere in southern Wisconsin. Be sure to try the fried ravioli and pulled pork nachos, too. For fine dining, be sure to make reservations at Kristi's Restaurant and/or Chalet Landhaus Restaurant.

As for drinks, no visit to New Glarus is complete without a visit to the historic Puempel's Olde Tavern. There are bars in Chicago that spend millions of dollars to try to copy the ambiance and vibe this place does. Try the limburger cheese sandwich if you dare. Dirty Dog Taphaus is the perfect place to go if you want a taste of all the New Glarus Brewing Company brews, and other local craft beers. Kleeman’s Bar & Grill is a great place for a drink, too, and has some of the friendliest bartenders in town. And Sportsman's Bar & Grill is another historic bar in New Glarus with some of the best burgers anywhere.
